Radiantly You is a monthly beauty column for mature women, written by my mom, Annette! Be sure to catch up on last month’s post about embracing your appearance as a mature woman. This month’s column will cover the 5 biggest skin care tips for mature women to improve their skin health and maintain their radiant appearance. Enjoy!
I have always made skin care a top priority, and I can thank myself for that now that I’m older! Starting a solid skin care routine as early as possible will yield the best results, but it is never too late to start. The 5 tips listed here are the ones that have benefitted me the most over the years. So much so, that I just had to share them with you this month!
Double cleanse your face
A major part of keeping a radiant appearance is making sure your skin is always properly cleansed, especially if you wear makeup on a regular basis. A great way to do this is by double cleansing! Typically, this 2-step process consists of a makeup remover used alongside a general cleanser. It ensures that every bit of makeup comes off as well as the dirt, pollutants, and toxins that can get into your skin throughout the day.
Moisturize your entire body every day
Envying those women with that healthy glow? Well, they most likely make moisturizing a top priority in their beauty routines. As you get older, the skin does not stay hydrated as easily, which makes moisturizing extremely important. Not only should you find a facial moisturizer that works for you, you should also find a body lotion that does the job as well.
I am currently loving Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion and Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator.
Use SPF every day
The biggest culprit of premature wrinkles and skin damage is the sun! These kind of skin issues are the most preventable so why not do what you can to avoid them? Use a facial moisturizer that contains at least SPF 30 on a daily basis and be sure to use an SPF 50 or more when you know you will be in direct sunlight (gardening, at the beach, etc.). The sun’s rays are no joke – they will ruin your skin if you don’t take caution.
Every day, I use Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 / PA++.
Exfoliation helps to sloth away dead skin cells and encourage cell renewal. This causes a brighter, smoother complexion and allows serums and moisturizers to sink in deeper. It also helps treat dry skin, fade scars/uneven tone, and boost collagen!
I typically use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, but I use the Biore Charcoal Acne Scrub under my arms. Doing this helps remove deodorant residue, fade dark skin, and smooth the area for a better shave.
Less is best
No, packing on more foundation won’t cover up your wrinkles. Sorry. Your skin care routine should always be more in-depth than your makeup routine because when you have a healthy canvas to start with, you won’t feel the need to apply so much makeup. Embrace your age and wear makeup that suits you the best.
In order to see any kind of results with the appearance of your skin, you must be consistent! Make it a priority to find the products that work best for you and that will fit seamlessly into your everyday routine. Before you know it, people will be asking you what you do to look so great!
