How To Set Goals And Effectively Achieve Them (With A FREE Worksheet!)

Everyone wants to achieve something – whether it’s starting a business, losing weight, or getting better grades in school. Having the ambition to achieve something is what gets us out of bed in the morning, hustling to get ourselves closer to our personal finish lines. Here is how to set goals for yourself and effectively achieve them – because it’s about time, right?!

Sometimes our goals can be rather scary! Every time I think about the day when I will be able to pursue this blog full-time, a little part of me gets super excited, and a bigger part of me feels like I’ll pass out. But this is not a bad thing! Those big, lofty goals that we want to make a reality should be a little scary. They should lie outside of our comfort zones because that is what will really move us ahead in life. The harsh reality is that we won’t get anywhere being comfortable.

So these goals are great and all, but how on earth can you achieve something so big? You make it not so big by breaking it down into smaller, less daunting pieces. Taking it one step at a time allows you to really master each part before moving onto something else, making the finish line seem not so unobtainable.

Then, there’s holding yourself accountable to accomplishing each part. Creating a goal and breaking it down is only the beginning. You must have deadlines for yourself and work your hardest to get everything done before that time comes. Don’t put it off! And if you find yourself putting it off, then rethink why you want it. Goals you really want to achieve shouldn’t be a chore.

If you know you have worked the hardest you can and still come up short, assess why. Maybe you didn’t give yourself enough time or overestimated your capabilities. Reflect on what you can do to improve your strategy and give it another go! Don’t let a small failure stop you from continuing on your journey to success.

Another important thing to know when learning how to set goals is to make sure you reflect on your successes! Sometimes you won’t realize just how far you’ve come when you’re still hustling in the trenches. Being aware of your successes, however small they may be, will encourage you to keep going all the way until the end.

When you have finally reached your goal, then it’s time to evaluate. How do you feel about it? Do you think there was anything different you could have done to get yourself to your finish line? How can you step it up and challenge yourself to achieve even more?

I think writing out the process I just laid out is the best way to better hold yourself accountable and encourage yourself to go further. That’s why I have created the Get Your Goals, Girl! worksheet! It is a printable worksheet that you can use over and over again that will teach you how to set goals effectively and realistically. It allows you to reflect on your progress along the way and evaluate yourself at the end. It is super easy to fill out and will definitely help to keep yourself on track. Best of all, it’s FREE! I love this! My family regularly asks, “How are you stepping out of your comfort zone?” because we should be as we move forward in life. I also loved some of the questions you had for your check-in on goals, especially if they weren’t completed on time. They really force you to consider if you’re setting reasonable goals or if you even want to complete the goal you’ve set. Those are always good things to reflect on!

Cute printable! I’ve always been very goal driven, but this year has been kicking my butt. Between illness, stitches, anxiety, losing a pet (and that’s just the major things) I haven’t felt very motivated. I really hope things turn around soon because I think it will help get me out of this rut to feel like I’ve accomplished something.

Thank you! I find that journaling the things that I accomplish everyday, big or small, help me to keep a positive attitude. Sometimes we don’t give ourselves enough credit for the little things we do! Keep looking up, girl ????
